The Best All-Rounders from Watches & Wonders
Four watches that can go anywhere and do anything.
What are the most exciting all‑rounder watches?
Dive watches and dress watches are great — but at heart, they’re made with a specific purpose. Sometimes you want a watch that can do it all. Here are some of the most exciting all-rounders from Watches & Wonders.
The Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture
If you’re looking for a watch that can go anywhere, it’s hard to go past a Worldtimer — it's designed to be able to tell you the time anywhere in the world, at a glance. The Classic Worldtimer Manufacture has been a staple since it debuted in 2012, and this year, Frederique Constant has given the popular model an update. The size is now a more contemporary 40mm, and the dial has been refreshed to improve legibility. On the inside, the calibre has also been improved, with the big news being the FC-719 movement offering 72 hours of power reserve. The only question is — where in the world would you wear it?
The Bremont Supernova Chronograph
Space has been one of the major themes of Watches & Wonders — with watchmakers clearly captivated by our renewed interest in manned missions to the moon. British watchmaker Bremont didn’t want to get left out of the action and has partnered with Astrolab — a space exploration company slated to launch FLIP (the FLEX Lunar Innovation Program) later this year to explore the lunar poles. Attached to the FLIP rover will be a Bremont Supernova Chronograph. For those of us bound to earth, this spacey 41mm chronograph features a steel case, black ceramic bezel and a dial with a delicate grid pattern, inspired by the sails of a solar array.
The Bell & Ross BR-05 36mm Blue Diamond
Released earlier this year, the Bell & Ross BR-05 36mm Blue Diamond presents a more poetic vision of the integrated urban sports watch. Housed in the smaller 36mm steel case, but still full of the sleekly elegant design codes for which Bell & Ross is famous, the real star of this watch is the dial. The dial is blue aventurine glass, with glittering inclusions creating a starry night effect. This is accented by a seemingly random spray of brilliant diamonds set across the dial, in addition to the diamond hour markers. In fact, the seven stones form the outline of the constellation Aquila, or the Eagle.
The Nomos Tangente Neomatik 38 Update
There’s a perception that an all-round daily watch needs to be sporty and utilitarian — capable of handling everything and anything. Nomos, the masters of German minimalism, show us that this isn’t always the case with the latest Tangente Neomatik 38 Update, a trimmed-down version of the original 2018 model that now comes in a 38mm case. The core Tangente is one of Nomos’ oldest and most loved designs, with a clean, round case and angular, straight lugs. The ‘Update’ in the name refers to the brand’s ingenious peripheral date — a series of apertures which frames the current day with twin red pips. It’s charming and practical, like everything Nomos does.
