Rolex Cellini – Poetry in the Lunar Cyle
Eagerly awaited by Rolex fans, the re-introduction of a moonphase into the Rolex portfolio came at this year’s Baselworld as part of the Cellini collection. Presented in with a white lacquer dial, the lunar element comprises a blue enameled disc at 6 o’clock showing the full moon – depicted by meteorite appliqué – and the new moon – depicted by a silver ring. This elegant timepiece comes in a 39mm rose gold case.
IWC Portofino hand wound moon phase – Classic and Contemporary
Harking back to its heritage, this 2017 novelty revives the spirit of the complication that the Portofino was launched with in 1984. Powered by a hand-wound movement, the silver dial has a moon phase display, along with a small seconds and power reserve display that is simple and balanced. Lange 1 Moon phase – A moon for days and nights
A.Lange & Soehne’s most successful watch family has been enriched with a new astronomical complication that takes a particularly realistic approach to moon phase display by combining it with a day/night indicator. The watch not only tracks the lunar cycle, but a blue disc on the watch performs one revolution every 24 hours, changing colour during various times of the day to accurately represent the sky’s various hues, During the day, it shows a bright sky without stars, while at night it depicts a dark sky with prominently contrasting laser-cut stars, thus the moon always orbits against a realistic background.
