Time For Emirates: A fascinating history of time

"The inherent nature of the clock separated time from mankind’s own experience, and contributed to belief in an independent world of mathematically measurable consequences, the special world of the natural sciences" - Lewis Mumford, Technology and Civilisation

1st February 2010, Dubai: As a tribute to the company’s 60 year heritage and passion for fine watchmaking, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the UAE’s largest Swiss watch retailer with the most extensive portfolio of Swiss brands in the Middle East, is extremely proud and honored to announce the launch of ‘Time for Emirates’, a unique and exquisitely presented book dedicated to the history of the wristwatch. ‘Time for Emirates’ was recently awarded the Bronze prize in the prestigious Dubai International Print Award 2009, presented by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Printing and Publishing Group.

‘Time For Emirates: The History of the Wristwatch From the Sundial to the Tourbillon’ was the brainchild of Swiss company Time for SA, represented by Heinz Heimann, who approached Mr. Abdul Hamied Seddiqi, Vice Chairman of Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons to partner with him on this unique project to showcase and celebrate the fascinating world of watches in the Emirates.

Written by well-known author Gisbert L. Brunner, Time For Emirates contains a foreword by Mr. Abdul Hamied Seddiqi, who has, in his own words “dedicated his life to precious – and preciously measured – time”, making him the perfect candidate to introduce the book into the Emirates. The book is a 321 page hard-back volume, with a beautifully designed cover based on the inner workings of a wristwatch by Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons’ Creative Director Ms. Muna Mohammed Seddiqi,

Mr. Abdul Hamied Seddiqi said, “Time For Emirates is devoted to all facets of the wristwatch, from it’s modest beginnings more than 400 years ago to the present day, and from simple watches to highly complex timepieces…everything you read in this book has to do with mankind’s most precious commodity – time.

He continues “The topic of the wristwatch is as diverse as the theme of time itself, and I truly hope this book will be an inspiration to those who want to further their knowledge on the fascinating history of time.”

One of the first copies of Time For Emirates has been personally presented by Mr. Abdul Hamied Seddiqi to the library of Dubai’s exclusive Capital Club, with further copies being distributed to watch collectors and made available exclusively across all Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons showrooms and boutiques throughout the UAE, to be enjoyed by members of the public who have a desire to know more about the art of watchmaking and the history of time.
